Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. I cry out to God Most High, to God, who vindicates me. He sends from heaven and saves me, rebuking those who hotly pursue me—God sends forth his love and his faithfulness. – Psalm 57:1-3
While in my prayer closet sometime around January 2008, I heard my spirit singing “Have mercy on me, O God…” and following its tune, I was inspired to pen “Have Mercy On Me”. It was a very simple rendition from a heart that was crying out to God for comfort, strength and deliverance.
When the world is more than I can bear
All I need is your light
To shine through the darkness
When the pain is more than I can bear
All I need is your touch
And your love surround me
Have mercy on me, O God
Take away all that keep me apart from you
Have mercy on me, O Lord
Cleaners me of all my sins and my past
Have mercy on me
Lord, forgive me
Your love endures
Your compassion never fail
Have mercy on me
Lord, you made me whole
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever. – Psalm 136:1

I felt very led this morning to pen this “song” after I heard the song by a singer from Taiwan last Sunday at service. It resonated deeply with my soul, as I could relate entirely to his lyrics as I walked through that path before. Thus I decided to pen my own, as my deepest writings are always birthed from my darkest times. But they are not the end, like the Psalmists, God’s Glory always prevail. I have included the English translation lest some may not understand mandarin well.
When I lost hope and felt depressed
When I lost faith and felt lost
The darkness ahead overwhelmed me
All my doubts and confusions
All my fears and pain
Caused me to lose sight of how I should walk the path ahead
Confused. Crushed. Teared.
Tired. Surrendered. Let go.
I still have to continue to walk on.
As time passed
As time tested
I still can endure to the end
Because there is Someone who can carry all my burdens
He will never leave me
Nor let me be alone
He will walk with me to the very end
Because of His Love
There is hope in this world
With Him, I can overcome everything
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. (Romans 8:28) In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (Romans 8:37) For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. (1 John 5:4) For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. (Philippians 4:13)
